How a Medusa measurement is allowed to exist
The family declaration at Medusa instruments stays NOT YET PUBLISHED. This page states the method that would bind a measurement if one were published — it does not publish one.
Method before measurement
A Medusa run fixes its epoch and its rules before it judges. Nothing is reported as a measurement until the method that produced it can be named. A plausible number without that method is not a receipt.
Artefacts are hashed
An observation that enters the store carries a content hash of its bytes. Marts are derived from those artefacts; an artefact is never invented from a mart. If the hash cannot be shown, the observation is not published as measured.
Four finished states — and only four
When a stage or a run finishes, its state is one of success, failure, could-not-run, or not-run. The last two are states of the instrument or of the work that did not happen — they are not drawn as zero, and they are never rendered as a pass.
Verified is a human act
Registry documents are fetched deterministically. Marking a rule verified after a document changes is a person reading the diff and accepting it. The fetch does not verify; the human does.
What a model may and may not do
A model may feed an engine and may write a dossier from receipts. It does not fetch law, and it does not invent a rank. Judging steps stay deterministic engines; feed failure is itself a state on the run.
Lane separation
Analyse does not execute; execute does not close the loop. Closing a loop requires its own receipt that the change was applied and observed — not a hope that the analysis was right.
What this method does not establish
The Medusa method does not establish a ranking of firms or pages as a league table. It does not establish that traffic moved for a claimed reason. It does not establish that a citation in an answer engine is an endorsement. It does not establish that an applied change worked unless a closed-loop receipt says so. Those readings, however tempting, are outside the method.
