# Forex profit calculator

Exit minus entry, times size — every profit calculator prints that. No closed trade ever paid it: the spread was crossed and the commission charged, both ways, out of the same account. This computes the profit **net of the round trip**, prints the gross figure beside it labelled as what it is, and shows the gap — because the difference between the two is not a rounding error, it is your cost of doing business, and it deserves to be a number.

## Why the gross figure flatters

The spread is crossed the moment a position opens: buy at the ask, mark to the bid, and the position starts negative by exactly the spread at your size. Commission, where the account charges it, lands both sides. Neither cost waits for the exit — they are settled facts of the trade — so a profit computed from mid-to-mid prices reports money that was never available. On a wide winner the gap is small change; on the tight scalps where costs loom largest, gross can report a profit for a trade that netted a loss. The panel prints both figures and the share the costs took, so the flattery is measurable.

## What this does not do

It does not know your fill prices — slippage means the prices on the statement, not the prices on the screen, are the ones that count, and the statement wins every disagreement with this page. It does not model swap or financing: a position held across rollover pays or receives amounts that vary by broker, day and direction, and a typical figure would be an invention — for multi-day trades, add your statement's swap line to the round trip yourself. And it does not convert currencies on its own: the rate field is yours, because the honest source is your broker's conversion, not a guess dressed as a feed.

The multiplier under every figure here is defined one calculator over at the [pip value calculator](https://hadalinstruments.com/tools/pip-value-calculator/). Sizing the next trade against the loss that actually lands is the [position size & lot size calculator](https://hadalinstruments.com/tools/position-size-calculator/), and the cost mechanics are defined at [execution cost](https://hadalinstruments.com/glossary/execution-cost/) and [slippage](https://hadalinstruments.com/glossary/slippage/). The full list is under [calculators](https://hadalinstruments.com/tools/). And when the inputs cannot support an answer, the panel above refuses and says why rather than rendering a zero — [why an instrument refuses to answer](https://hadalinstruments.com/docs/insufficient-n/) is that design, written down.
