# Displacement Indicator

Body-dominant delivery flagged per bar and per leg, at thresholds you can actually read.

[Displacement](https://hadalinstruments.com/glossary/displacement/) is the rare term in this vocabulary with a fully stateable definition, and this instrument ships the definition rather than an artist’s impression of it.

## What it draws

Every bar passing the stated test — body dominating range at the campaign’s default threshold, range beyond the volatility multiple, or both, as the combination toggle requires — and the legs those bars compose into under the aggregation rule.

Flags carry direction and the configuration that produced them. Where a displacement leg leaves the marks the taxonomy cares about — the imbalances and the thin traversals — this instrument’s siblings in the line draw those objects under their own definitions; this one stays honestly single-purpose, because a flag that quietly bundles three definitions is three arguments wearing one label. Structure tools in the line consume these same flags for their displacement qualifier, so a qualified shift and the bars that qualified it always agree about which bars those were.

## Thresholds you can read

The difference between a displacement flag and a feeling is a number somebody wrote down. Both of this instrument’s tests ship with the campaign’s stated defaults visible in the settings and printed on the chart, and changing either marks the configuration as modified — anything you observe stays tied to the exact settings that produced it, which is the difference between exploring and fooling yourself.

And the numbers stop where the evidence stops: body-dominance records one-sided delivery, not who delivered it and not what comes next. Attribution and forecast are separate claims needing separate evidence, and the measurement layer tests the continuation question against its stated null rather than assuming it into the marketing. The instrument is a precise adjective. Sentences built with it remain the writer’s responsibility, and this page declines to write them in advance.

## The object it looks for

The frozen definition, drawn. This is the geometry the detector is built to find — not a capture of the instrument running, and not a result. A drawing that implied otherwise would be the one thing this line exists to refuse.

## The parameters, in the open

Every threshold is a named parameter with its shipped state visible. Where a default reads *election pending*, the calibration run has not yet frozen it, and this page says so instead of inventing a number. Presets populate editable fields; they never lock them.

## The calibration certificate

Every instrument in this line ships with its report: the reaction and state statistics for its objects, computed on this estate's own recorded data under the campaign's measurement design, with the vintage's hash and date printed — and a refusal state when the vintage ages past its declared cadence. The report ships whatever it says.

## What this instrument does not do

It makes no claim that its objects predict anything, and it ships no signals. It draws defined geometry under stated parameters; whether that geometry carries information is the measurement layer's question, answered against stated nulls and published either way. No performance figures appear on this page because none have been computed — and when they are, they arrive as the certificate above, not as marketing.

## Questions and answers

### What counts as displacement in the Displacement Indicator?

Two stated tests read each bar: whether its body is at least 60% of its range, and whether its range reaches 1.5 times the 14-period average true range. Whether a bar must pass one test or both is the Combination parameter, and its default is an election still pending. Consecutive qualifying bars compose into a displacement leg under an aggregation rule whose default calibration has yet to freeze, and each flag carries its direction and the configuration that produced it.

### Why does it test both body and range?

Because the two tests read different things. The body test reads shape, and a small bar in a quiet market can pass it; the range test reads size against recent volatility, and a wide bar with long wicks can pass that. The Combination parameter decides whether either test is enough or both are required, and requiring both is what keeps quiet-market bodies out.

### Does a displacement flag show who moved price or what comes next?

Neither. Body dominance records one-sided delivery, not who delivered it and not what follows.
